Day 01 :: Arrive in Delhi
Airport pickup and transfer to hotel in central Delhi. Overnight in hotel.

Day 02 :: Flight Delhi – Paro (2300 m)
Morning transfer to international airport for flight to Paro. Airport pickup and check into hotel in Paro. Overnight in hotel.

Day 03 :: Paro (2300 m)
Visit Paro, the country’s second largest town. See the National Museum, the Rinpung Dzong, la « Fortress on a heap of jewels », which contains remarkable paintings illustrating the legendary cycles of Buddhism. Overnight in hotel.

Day 04 :: Paro
Visit Taksang monastery, known as the Tiger’s Nest, perched on a cliff at over 3000 m and one of the most venerated places of pilgrimage in the Himalayan world. We also see Ta Dzong, a former watch tower, now converted into a national museum. Walk through villages in the Paro valley. Overnight in hotel.

Day 05 :: Paro – TREK Drukgyel Dzong (2500 m) – Shana (2850 m) [4 – 5 hour walk ]
TREK Set off by road for Drukgyel Dzong monastery, the Victorious Fortress, built in the 17th century to protect West Bhutan from Tibetan invaders. We visit the dzong and make contact with the yak men . Start trekking in the direction of Sharna Zampa, by climbing up through the Paro Chu valley. We pass the hamlet of Chang Zampa and walk through rice and potato fields before entering a forest. Overnight in camp in the Sharna Zampa meadows.

Day 06 :: Shana – Soi Thangthangka (3600 m) [6/7 hour walk ]
TREK Long trek. We walk through a forest of conifers and rhododendrons. Beautiful views over Jhomolhari (7314 m). The path rises and drops repeatedly until we reach the Thangthangka house. Overnight in camp.

Day 07 :: Soi Thangthangka – Jangothang (4100 m) [5/6 hour walk]
TREK Not as long as the day before but we climb higher and reach the home of the yaks. We cross the high pastures of Takethang, with their charming stone houses, and then come to the grassland of Dangochang, situated on a long plateau. Camp in the magnificent pastures of Jangothang from where there is a stunning view over Jhomolhari.

Day 08 :: Day to explore the surroundings of Jangothang (4100 m)
A chance to relax and strike up conversation with the yak men . Overnight in camp.

Day 09 :: Jangothang – Lingzhi (4000 m) [5- 6 hour walk]
TREK Today we have views over not only Jhomolhari but the whole range separating Bhutan from Tibet. We climb gradually to a false summit at 4680 m and then walk on moraine until we finally reach the Nyile La pass (4870 m). Long descent. We are back amongst the rhododendrons in the broad Jaje Chhu valley. Overnight in camp at Lingzhi.

Day 10 ::Explore the surroundings of Lingzhi (4000 m)
A day to rest and, if you wish, visit the dzong in Lingzhi and have a look at the base camp of Jichu Drakye. Musk deer and bharals are to be seen here. Overnight in camp.

Day 11 :: Lingzhi – Shodu (4100 m) [7- 8 hour walk]
TREK Long walk. We cross several torrents. The trail climbs to Yeli La pass (4930 m). Beautiful view over Jhomolhari, Gangchhenta and Tserim Kang. Steep descent to a little lake and then on to camp at Shodu.

Day 12 :: Shodu – Barshong (3700 m) [4 – 5 hour walk]
TREK Gradual descent, partly through forest, until we reach a river, at which point the path climbs to the campsite at Barshong.

Day 13 :: Barshong – Dolam Kencho (3450 m) [4 – 5 hour walk)
TREK The path drops gradually through dense forest before climbing and then dropping again to the attractive Dolam Kencho campsite.

Day 14 :: Dolam Kencho – Dodina (2650 m) – Thimphu (2400 m) [3-4 hour walk]
TREK The last (short) leg, mostly through the middle of a bamboo forest. Transfer by road to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Overnight in hotel.

Day 15 :: Thimphu
Morning visit of Thimphu. Explore the art school and the area round the Memorial Chorten with its fabulous paintings and sculpture. Overnight in hotel.

Day 16 :: Thimphu – Punakha [3 hour drive)
Drive to Punakha. Cross the Dochu La (3050 m) ; magnificent panorama of the Bhutanese Himalayas with its peaks soaring to over 7000 m. Visit the dzong in Punakha, an impressive fortress built at the confluence of two rivers. We explore a series of villages in the superb Punakha valley. Overnight in hotel.

Day 17 :: Punakha – Paro [6 hour drive]
Drive towards Wangdiphodrang. Visit village, market and dzong. Return to Paro. En route, see the superb dzong in Simtoka. Overnight in hotel.

Day 18 :: Paro – Delhi [1½ hour flight]
Transfer to Paro airport for flight to Delhi. Airport pickup and check into hotel in central Delhi. Overnight in hotel.

Day 19 :: Delhi – International airport
Visit New Delhi (Qutb Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, Red Fort, Jama Masjid) and go shopping. In the afternoon we keep on one hotel room in which to leave our things and have a shower before the late transfer to the airport.
