Kashmir is one of the most beautiful and popular tourist regions since the time of the great Mughals. Its probably most famous for the houseboats on Dal lake and you have not really been to Kashmir if you have not stayed in one, but there is a lot more to the Kashmir Valley than just lazing on the boat. Srinagar which is the capital of the state Jammu and Kashmir. Situated at 5,200 ft. above sea level and set amidst delightful surroundings, it is in many respects, one of the finest pleasure resorts of the world. It is also surrounded by beautiful lakes and gardens. It has been quite rightly said, ” if there is a heaven on earth – it is here, it is here, it is here.

Day 01 :: Arrive Jammu
Welcome to your ‘Kashmir Delight’ tour! On arrival at Jammu (on your own), you will be met at Jammu railway station / Jammu airport and get transferred to your hotel in Jammu by local taxi/coach. Later in the evening, you will visit the famous Sri Raghunath Temple consisting of a cluster of temples. The temples inner sanctums contain gigantic statues of deities and numerous ‘lingams’. Thereafter stroll in the local market surrounding the temple.

Day 02 :: On to Pahalgam (268 kms/ approx 9 hour drive)
kash-1Today the coach departs for Pahalgam, the ‘Valley of Shepherds’ which is situated on the confluence of streams flowing from river Lidder and Sheshnag Lake. Enroute halt for lunch in a local restaurant/dhaba. On arrival into Pahalgam, check into your hotel. The rest of the evening is free to enjoy the surrounding beauty.

Day 03 :: On to Srinagar (97 kms / approx. 4 hour drive)
The morning is at leisure or simply stroll along the river Lidder or you can experience the thrill of a pony ride through the meadow and pine forests (on direct payment basis). In the afternoon drive to Srinagar. Enroute visit the Awantipura ruin, an 1100-year old temple built by King Awantivarman. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. On arrival into Srinagar check into your hotel. The rest of the evening is at leisure to relax in your hotel or you can walk leisurely on the boulevard watching the shikaras glide on the picturesque Dal lake.

Day 04 :: In Srinagar Day Excursion to Sonamarg (90 kms / approx.3 hour drive)
Today you embark on a full day excursion to the picturesque ‘meadow of gold’, Sonamarg. The fast flowing Sindh river makes it popular for trout and mahseer fishing in summer. You can opt for a pony ride to one of the glaciers for some fun in snow and ice (on a direct payment). Return to Srinagar in the evening.

Day 05 :: In Srinagar
Today morning you will get transferred to Dal Lake from where a shikara will transfer you to your deluxe houseboat. In the afternoon proceed on a city tour visiting the Shankaracharya temple situated atop a hill, the famous Mughal gardens – Chesmashahi, Nishat and Shalimar offering a panoramic view of the Dal lake. These gardens were Mughal Emperors concept of Paradise and these gardens today are very popular picnic spots. Also visit a local handicraft shop where you can purchase local hand crafted items – shawls, jackets, bedcovers, paper mache, carpets and much more! In the evening enjoy a romantic ‘shikara ride’ on the Dal lake.

Day 06 :: In Srinagar Day Excursion to Gulmarg (60 kms / approx. 2 hour drive)
This morning proceed to Gulmarg driving past willow trees, fast flowing streams and lush green meadows. Gulmarg – the ‘meadow of flowers’ is an apt term for this idyllic flower-laden meadow offering a spectacular view of towering snow capped peaks covered with dense forests of tall conifers and gigantic fir and pine trees. On arrival, stroll leisurely across the green meadow to one of the world’s highest golf course. A must is a fun-filled ride in the newly introduced gondola lift (on direct payment). Drive back to Srinagar to return to your houseboat in the evening

Day 07 :: On to Katra (268 kms / approx. 9 hour drive)
Early morning depart for Katra. Lunch will be en route in a local restaurant/dhaba. On arrival into Katra check into your hotel.

Day 08 ::In Katra Trek to Mata Vaishnodevi – approx 14 Kms one way
As per your own preferred time, proceed to Banganga from where you will trek up to the Mata Vaishnodevi Temple. Everyday of the year, a mass of humanity surges up steep pathways that cut across the hillside for mile after mile. Popular belief holds that anybody who walks the Himalayan trail to Her abode to ask for boon rarely goes back disappointed. There are many who journey here year after year to pay obeisance regardless of their faith or belief, creed or class, caste or religion, for Mata Vaishnodevi transcends all such barriers. Return to your hotel after Darshan.

Day 09 :: On to Jammu (52 kms / approx. 1.5 hour drive) Return home with happy memories
The morning is at leisure. Today bid farewell to your ‘Kashmir Delight’ tour, as you will get transferred to Jammu airport or Jammu railway station for your onward journey.
